Computerized Tomography

In order to appreciate the nuances of Computerized Tomography (CT), the techniques used to reconstruct the images should be understood. Programs have been written implementing filtered back-projection, the basic technique of generating CT images. These programs simulate image reconstruction for first, third, fourth, fifth, and to some extent, second generation CT scanners. Since the programs are well documented and the source code is freely available, they can be used by both instructors and students in many ways ranging from studying the effect of changing reconstruction parameters to understanding the back-projection algorithm itself. In this paper, we briefly review the reconstruction of CT images and discuss the specific implementation presented in this software package.
